Labradorite is known as a stone of magic and protection, as it has many uses in both. The Inuit people saw Labradorite as descending from the heavens — a stone of the Aurora Borealis — bringing the magical fire from the sky to the Earth. This frozen fire was thought to have mystical powers that aided in opening psychic abilities, a quality that Labradorite is still called upon for. Its color play ranges from blue to gold to purple to green, and it can be an amazing partner for meditation: you can stare at it and see new things all the time. About the Stone

Though the Inuit thought it rained down as frozen fire, Labradorite comes from deep in the earth — a feldspar formed by pressure, named for Labrador in Canada but found in Finland, Madagascar and the Appalachians too. Its inner flash is labradorescence, the Schiller effect: color play that seems to come from within and disappears as you move the stone.

Wearing & Care

Sterling silver tarnishes slowly in air; a silver polishing cloth keeps it bright. Put it on last, after perfume and lotion, and take it off for showers, swimming and sleep. Labradorite has two directions of cleavage, so it chips if dropped on a hard surface. Do not soak it.
