About the Stones

Malachite. Malachite is a copper carbonate; its banding is growth structure, layer on layer deposited in the cavities of copper deposits, which is why polished pieces show rings and eyes.

Moonstone. Moonstone is a feldspar; its floating glow, adularescence, comes from light scattering between microscopically thin layers inside the stone — the light is not on the stone, it is in it.

Black Onyx. Onyx is a banded chalcedony, the same mineral family as Agate; the solid black material is the classic form, and much commercial black onyx is colour-enhanced — a standard, stable practice.

Wearing & Care

Sterling silver tarnishes slowly in air; a silver polishing cloth keeps it bright. Put it on last, after perfume and lotion, and take it off for showers, swimming and sleep. Malachite: Safe to handle when polished. Moonstone: Moonstone should not be soaked; a wipe with a soft cloth is all it needs. Black Onyx: Durable: warm water and a soft cloth, and it can take daily wear.
